ETHNIC CHIC, the new souvenir collection in Belgrade Window Shop
At the T-shirts, cups, coasters, substrates for the computer mouse, bags, alarm clocks, there is the Kalemegdan fortress as a dominant motif, with stylized human motifs taken from old carpets and motifs of animals and tools, with good luck charm from the 18 century.
The Belgrade Window Souvenir Shop of the Belgrade Cultural Center is richer for one more souvenir programme. It is a collection of souvenirs ETHNIC CHIC, created by the artist and designer Ivana Kalina Mitrovic (Copy: Gordana Jelisijević). At the T-shirts, cups, coasters, substrates for the computer mouse, bags, alarm clocks, there is the Kalemegdan fortress as a dominant motif, with stylized human motifs taken from old carpets and motifs of animals and tools, with good luck charm from the 18 century.
My intention is to use traditional motifs into new, modern way in order to customize the national artistic heritage to the contemporary, postmodern aesthetics. Within the collection ETHNIC CHIC, a characteristic motif of Belgrade, the Kalemegdan Fortress, goes along with stylized anthropomorphic motifs of man and woman taken from carpets from Dobanovci (1890) and Sabac (half of the 20th century) areas, and graphic motifs of stylized animals and tools from the necklaces - good luck charm dating 18th century, found in the vicinity of Pirot, says the author.
