Dušica Dražić, BLUEPRINT, Art Gallery of BCC

The Symposium is based on the premise that critical approach in examining the past is a necssary condition for quality development/future of the community. The main aim of the Symposium is to stress the importance of exploration, preservation and communication of the collective memory places, as well as to urge all relevant institutions and various social actors to take responsibility and engage in memory preservation.
The Symposium gathers prominent experts from different scientific fields from the country and abroad – culturologists, politicologists, historians and art historians, geographers, artists, architects, activists. In that way the Symposium opens space for consideration of different aspects about memory, such as examining the role of memory in revitalisation of material and immaterial heritage, analysing the potential of reviving and preservation of collective memory for urban and socio-cultural regeneration of the city and participation of citizens in the given processes, as well as identifying tasks of public politics, relevant institutions and different actors which should be fulfilled in order to enable activation of memory in the development of the city. One segment of the Symposium will be dedicated to learning about history, collective memory, narratives and cultural heritage of Slavija Square in Belgrade. The same segment of the program will be presenting different initiatives and projects aimed at reconstruction and revitalisation of the Slavija Square, perceived as the public place with strong collective identity and place of great importance for history and memory of Belgrade.

The Symposium is a part of the project MEMORY OF THE CITY together with the artwork and exhibition Blueprint by Dušica Dražić, held at the Art Gallery of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade in a period August 10th – September 1st.
