Documentary
Latvia, Lithuania, 2025, 91’
Director: Laila Pakalnina
A western, not in the Wild West, but at an international airport, captured through the lens of a renowned director. A gripping, visually composed tale of „runway rangers” and their encounters with the natural world. In this paradoxical environment different species cross flight paths, each with their own route. Scarecrows was filmed for five years across four seasons at Riga International Airport. Bird and wildlife control specialists guide us through a chronicle of the flow between work and nature, reminding us that the fences built for humans are not always designed to protect nature.
