18:00 ELFRIEDE JELINEK – LANGUAGE UNLEASHED / ELFRIEDE JELINEK – DIE SPRACHE VON DER LEINE LASSEN
Documentary
Austria, 2022, 96’
Director: Claudia Müller
Participate: Martin Wuttke, Sandra Hüller, Ilse Ritter, Maren Kroymann, Sophie Rois, Stefanie Reinsperger…

A child prodigy, a scandalous author, a “traitor to the fatherland,” a feminist, a lover of fashion, a communist, a “language terrorist,” a rebel, an enfant terrible, a provocateur – an artist, both brilliant and vulnerable. Claudia Müller’s film about Elfriede Jelinek, who in 2004 became the first German-language writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, focuses on her artistic approach to language. Elfriede Jelinek – Language Unleashed is a multi-layered, associative film portrait, full of contradictions – a work that, from close proximity, explores the author’s technique of linguistic montage.

20:00 THE SOUFFLEUR
Austria, 2025, 78’
Director: Gastón Solnicki
Cast: Willem Dafoe, Lilly Lindner, Claus Philipp, Stephanie Argerich…

After thirty years of managing a legendary hotel in Vienna, Lucius learns that the building has been sold to an Argentine investor who plans to demolish and redevelop it. With the help of his daughter and a few loyal employees, he clings to the life he has built. What follows is a crusade of detours, espionage, and paranoid struggle to preserve a disappearing world – and the only home he has ever known. The conflict with the system, as well as the internal battle unfolding within Lucius, affects everything, including the hotel’s famous soufflé recipe. In an unpretentious and meditative manner, Solnicki tells a story about the fragility of dreams and ideals, routines, and the changes the world is undergoing – drawing a parallel with the soufflé, which requires knowledge, skill, and above all, patience. In this unusual black comedy, Willem Dafoe delivers a masterful performance as a man unwilling to accept that a familiar world is irreversibly vanishing before his—and our—eyes, collapsing like a failed soufflé. The film premiered in the Orizzonti competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
