THE DECADES’ COLLECTION
The pain of existence makes the soul burst at the seams, in an uncertain world, of safety it dreams (Brigita Međo)

Artists: Biljana Đurđević, Nina Ivanović, Siniša Ilić, Žolt Kovač, Neda Kovinić, Karsten Konrad, Milorad Mladenović, Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, Milica Tomić, Škart + NEpraktične žeNE (Brigita Međo)

The exhibition and research work titled The Decade Collection is based on works from the October Salon Collection, and this time they are realized in cooperation with the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Museum in Smederevo. Spatially and thematically, the exhibition is conceived around the issue of the manner and conditions in which we observe and follow visual art, but also the possibility of it being exhibited in an ongoing pandemic, in the difficult work conditions that we are continuing to face. The works presented in this exhibition might suggest the relations and imagination that come into being between exteriors and interiors, institutions, private and public spaces, work and leisure. In reaction to the architecture of the museum itself, the lapidarium and spaces outside the gallery proper, which are not usually used for exhibiting, are included into active exhibition space. Through such an action, by introducing a wider spatial frame into the layout, we enable multiple perspectives for observation and examine the notion of distance, which in this case may be the position from which the artworks are viewed in a different manner and from various angles, and the spatial dramaturgy of the exhibition, gallery, but also the museum itself.

Authors of the exhibition: Zorana Đaković Minniti and Siniša Ilić

The Decades’ Collection is thought to make the October Salon Collection more mobile and accessible to the public, structuring activities so that the selection of art works and exhibition formats are sensitive to context, communicate with space, exhibition conditions and the institutions with which the cooperation is done.

The Decades’ Collection is based on the research of the exhibitions of the October Salon, the decades of its existence and position on the art scene and the Collection of the October Salon. The title refers to the collection of oral and in various ways collected and organized materials, knowledge and memories of the event of the same name, the conditions and circumstances in which it was realized and maintained its continuity.
