In the works in this exhibition, KURS takes William Morris’s novel News from Nowhere as its point of departure, approaching utopia as an open field of political imagination and social transformation. At a moment marked by crises, growing inequalities, and a sense of exhaustion with political alternatives, these works return to the utopian legacy of the 19th century in order to reconsider the possibility of imagining a different future. Drawing on Fredric Jameson’s thesis that today it is easier to imagine the total collapse of the planet than the end of late capitalism, the exhibition raises questions about the limits of contemporary political action. By connecting the historical experiences of emancipatory movements with the present moment, it opens up the possibility of understanding the future once again as a space of decision, conflict, and political possibility.

Miloš Miletić and Mirjana Radovanović, working together as KURS, act as visual artists and researchers. In their practice, they explore how artistic work can contribute to various social struggles. As a starting point, they often use archival material in combination with poetry/prose and the visual language of revolutionary struggles and progressive movements from the past, translating them into a contemporary artistic and political context. Their work is guided by the idea that the content they produce should be didactic and accessible to the widest audience and that the field of art can and should be part of a broader political struggle for a more equal society.

They have exhibited intensively internationally, at institutions such as Kunsthaus Graz; The Mosaic Rooms, London; Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana; Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade; MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo, Rome, among others. They have conducted several archival research projects that were developed into artworks, published three books, and created murals in public spaces in several cities in the former Yugoslavia and beyond.
